The first exhibition at Galeria Szczur is a moment of transition. It is transforming from a typically formal and utilitarian place into a community space marked with traces of its previous incarnations. The story begins to take a new direction.

Detoxification refers to an inextinguishable toxin that is both part of us and what surrounds us. Poisoning is an essential element of life, it’s a natural activity for man. That’s why we constantly look for detoxification rituals —  to get some relief and gather new energy so we could re-poison ourselves again.

Cities, computers, organisms, we ourselves are being toxified. We are beeing toxified by stimuli, social media, chemistry, food, responsibilities, and ourselves. As a result of toxification, there is a need for detoxification. We are looking for a detox ritual that will lead us to a feeling of relative purification. We need detoxification to get relief and energy that we can spend on re-toxification.

What is detoxification for some may be toxic for others. We can detoxify ourselves both by cleansing and by getting dirty. Toxifying is a necessary part of life, a natural activity for human beings. We all toxify constantly.
